There’s a Right Way to Mulch a Bed
Mulch fails at the extremes: too thin and it’s decoration that stops nothing; piled onto trunks and it’s a volcano rotting the plants it was meant to protect. We install to the working depth, feathered off stems and trunks, over beds that were cleaned and treated first.
Material matters too. Shredded hardwood knits together and stays put on DFW wind and slope; dyed mulches hold color where the property calls for it. We’ll spec what fits the site — and because beds are re-edged as part of the install, the whole property reads crisp the day we finish.

How often should mulch be refreshed?
Once a year keeps most DFW beds at working depth — hardwood mulch breaks down (that is part of its job, feeding the soil). High-visibility commercial entries sometimes take a light spring and fall dressing to stay showroom-fresh year-round.
Which mulch is best for North Texas beds?
Shredded hardwood is the workhorse: it interlocks, resists washing, and improves soil as it breaks down. Dyed mulches bring a color pop that suits some brands and boards. We will show you options against your beds rather than argue in the abstract.
Does new mulch stop weeds by itself?
It suppresses; it does not sterilize. Mulch blocks light and moisture from weed seeds, but a real program pairs it with pre-emergent underneath — which is exactly how we install when beds are on our weed-control rotation.
